Wet-Sanding

Since we are happy with the shape of the car at this point, all we are doing is adding enough surfacer to sand down to the correct surface finish for proper paint application. We start off at 280-grit wet, and finish at 400-grit wet for single stage paints.  For base-clear, we have to go all the way to 600-grit.  If we do everything right, we will have a car with very smooth, wet-sanded surfacer, with nothing showing through.  If we do break through to underlying glaze, we will either have to spot-shoot surfacer and re-sand, to eliminate a texture change, or be extra-mindful while painting that area, and be sure that no texture shows through during subsequent work.  This is easy to do with single-stage paints, but base-clear requires a flawless surface.
