Brakes

The entire braking system must be in tip-top shape with at least semi-metallic pads in the front. The brake calipers and rear cylinders and the master cylinder must be in perfect order.  

Replace the 3 rubber flex-hoses with braided stainless hoses. They cost more, but one set will last the life of the car and they give a much firmer pedal feel. Braking in the front can be further improved by pads with more exotic compounds, such as kelvar or carbon/metallic, and the introduction of drilled and slotted rotors.

While you are at it, change the clutch hose out for a stainless one as well.
